Twelve Years ago, the Mississippi Gulf Coast faced the unprecedented challenges brought on by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. As we watch the destruction of Hurricane Harvey to our friends in Texas, we can’t help but think about the difficult task that lies ahead for everyone impacted by this devastating storm. The City of Gulfport, Gulfport Police Department, Gulfport Fire Department are partnering with the coastal City of Rockport, Texas to bring much needed relief supplies to their community – the point of landfall for Hurricane Harvey. We will be collecting items over the coming weeks and convoy them over for delivery when the weather and water has subsided.
The City of Rockport has been helpful in outlining the specific items most needed at this point – items listed below may be dropped off to Gulfport City Hall, 2309 15th Street Monday-Friday from 8 am – 5 pm or the Gulfport Central Fire Station next to City Hall. For items outlined for drop off at the Gulfport Police Department, residents are urged to call 228-868-5964 for a delivery location for all generators, air compressors, gas cans, fuel tanks, drills, and chainsaws.
For questions, contact City of Gulfport Public Information Officer, Chris Vignes, at 228-234-8590 or the Gulfport Police Department Public Information Officer, Josh Bromen, at 228-234-9730.
